Up to Speed

Hi ladies I just wanted to bring everyone up to speed as to where things have been standing medically. You're all aware we chose to switch RE's but wait, there's more.....tum, tum ta, tum.....*cue the suspenseful music*

So when I switched RE's my new RE ordered a bit of blood work that my old RE didn't and he also did a vaginal ultra sound so we could do an antral follicle count and see how my uterus and ovaries were looking.
Well the u/s (ultrasound) revealed the case of shrinking ovaries.
Both my right and left ovaries have shrunk significantly since June 2011.

Currently my ovaries stats are as follows:

Rt Ov-H........ 2.8cm
Rt Ov-L......... 1.7cm

Lt Ov-H......... 2.4cm
Lt Ov-L.......... 0.8cm

In June of 2011 my ovaries stats were as follows:

Rt Ov-H........ 5.13cm
Rt Ov-L.........1.95cm

Lt Ov-H......... 3.27cm
Lt Ov-L.......... 1.19cm

It doesn't take much too see that in terms of just sheer numbers my ovaries have shrunk considerably. The one of concern to me presently is my left ovary which as you can see in length has shrunk considerably.
My current RE isn't worried though and said I'll be monitored closely to see how I respond to stims.
Really as he said there isn't much that can be done from worrying over it (I agree), all tests have proven I don't currently have an infection, nor did I have one previously (rule that out) so in effect all we can do is wait and see how I respond to stims and adjust my protocol going forward if necessary.
There is unfortunately no drug that can increase the size of your ovaries (something may have the side effect of doing so, but its not the main purpose of any drug....darn been listening to those warnings on med commercials for nothing....lol).

What does this mean for IVF?
In his words no difference.
We will proceed with my protocol as planned.
My Rt ovary showed 15 follicles and my Lt showed 9!
So even with being a bit shrunk he thinks those numbers are promising and we can proceed.

At this point he has advised that I not dwell over it.
There is no way of him telling if my measurements were done correctly in the first place.
Though we have the scans (a copy of them) it can be hard to tell.
Not to mention if my measurements were taken wrong the first time, it won't be the only thing my old RE did wrong....hence the switch.

Its definitely not a hinderance just wanted to fill you ladies in on what's been going on behind the scenes.
I know that all this IVF lingo can become a bit confusing at times so for that reaosn I've created a page of all the most common abbreviations used.
I'll still try to explain things in my post but I have found myself already speaking in the lingo and sometimes don't realize it until someone raises an eyebrow at me. "English por favor".
You can find the abbreviations explained here.
I'm ready for this, bring on the injections and everything else, this is my year.
Oh have I ever mentioned we've had baby names picked out for over a year now?
I'll save that for another post.

Pharmacy Research

In beginning my journey into this whole world of IVF I was first given one of my first decisions,
choose a pharmacy from which to get my meds.
For those of you that may not be aware, IVF meds are usually quoted as being anywhere from $2000 - $5000 per cycle if you're paying out of pocket.
Of course for those ladies who have been in it long enough they know the tricks of the trade and there are definitely ways some use to get their necessary drugs much cheaper.

Walking out of our new clinic I was handed pamphlets for 4 different pharmacies.
Each one claims to offer the lowest most competitive price, great service, free delivery and nurse support.
The deciding factor for me was going to be price.
Immediately I made it my goal to try to find all the things I needed for my cycle and keep it under $2000.
I spent a full morning calling all the available pharmacies and won't you know the one a few blocks from my house turned out to be the cheapest of the lot.

I wanted to make a post for any ladies out there that may want an idea of comparisons between pharmacies, if you're making your budget for your first cycle this could come in handy.
Or just for basic knowledge of those wondering just how much the medications could run you.

Please note the drugs I looked into were ones for my cycle only, there are other medications used for IVF but I didn't get a comprehensive price list from each pharmacy as I only needed to know what my medication would cost.

Vi.llage Pharmacy
Bravelle ..........................................75iu $55/vial
Progesterone.....................................$49/vial
Lurpon..............................................$99/compounded 2wk kit
Gonal F.............................................$114.25

M.D.R.
Bravelle.............................................75iu $55.97/vial
Progesterone......................................$39.87/vial (sesame oil), $49.83/vial (ethyl oleate)
Lurpon...............................................$129.00 compounded 2wk kit
Gonal F..............................................75iu $133.97

Fre.edom
Bravelle..............................................75iu $56/vial
Progesterone.......................................$35.90/vial (sesame oil), $45.00/vial (ethyl oleate)
Lupron................................................$129 non-compounded 2wk kit
Gonal F...............................................75iu $69.50

South.Miami
Bravelle..............................................75iu $56
Progesterone.......................................$42.89/vial (seasme oil)
Lupron................................................$129.99 non-compounded 2wk kit
Gonal F...............................................75iu $57.50

Of course these prices are subject to change. Based on my research and comparisons in the end I was able to meet my goal of getting all my meds under $2000 and the best part is that the pharmacy is a short distance from my house where I can pick up in person and refills if needed will be a snap.

Tip: if your RE prescribes any other meds such as antibiotics or meds to help with your egg retrieval procedure or egg transfer, make sure to fill that prescription using your insurance coverage so that the cost is minimized.

Tip #2: another way to cut cost is to find out from your RE or nurse if any samples are available. Some manufacturers will sometimes leave samples with the doctors, similar to when you first start on bc's and you can get your first packet from the doctor's office.

Tip #3: sometimes manufacturers offer coupons on their website for certain drugs, you can always see if there is any available before filling your prescription.

Tip #4: there  are tons of other ways to save on meds I am sure so do your research, scoure the internet and be sure to use the resources out there.

Nature Continues to Inspire

Everywhere I look around me, in real life and from pictures on the web, nature continues to inspire me.
I've been looking into taking a photography class online.
I've been so inspired lately I'm determined to learn how to use that Cannon EOS 50D to capture all the beauty I see around me on a daily basis.
If anyone can recommend any online courses for photography I'm all ears....or books.
Have a wonderful rest of the week dolls.

Picnik is Free Inspiration

Ok so to be quite truthful today's inspiration isn't in theme for what I've been posting for the last few weeks but I thought it important to let everyone know that till April 19th Picnik is FREE.
If you don't know about Picnik its a website where you can create collages and upload pictures and add your own special touch to them, whether it be text or frames or effects.
I've been using it all weekend long to spruce up parts of my blog.
For instance on my "About Me" page you can now click to see pics of our wedding collage, or our trash the dress collage or our honeymoon collage.
I'm also putting together a cute collage of our recent one year anni trip to Italy.
So there you have it dolls.....be inspired, go take advantage of Picnik and make some great picture art!

Be Inspired

Happy weekend dolls.
This weekend I'll be outside enjoying the sunshine at a local regatta and taking some photos.
I hope that no matter what weather your city calls for this weekend that you take the time to be inspired by nature around you, and the city in which you live.

TGIF Inspiration

Hi dolls, I know that I'm a tad bit late with today's inspiration, but I've got a really good reason.
See today I woke up late, got a mani pedi, drove slowly, walked my dogs in our cul-de-sac and took time to really just enjoy the sunshine.
At first I thought to myself why am I wasting away the day, but then I reconsidered that thought and said "hey its Friday, I'm indulging in what makes me happy".
Make time for the little things friends, cause they turn out to make big impacts in the bigger scheme of things.

Wishing you all a weekend filled with happines.
Thanks to my girl Tonya for my Liebster Award.....more on that later *wink*

Strength Inspiration

Have you ever stopped to wonder on a daily basis where you draw your strength from?
I begin and end each day with a prayer because I know a lot of my strength comes from the Lord.
Still there are those times when I need a human connection, that human support.
Undoubtedly my husband is always there, but lately I have found a lot of my strength comes from a new friend, who has been such a great support to me.
I can count on her words, she not only makes me smile, but over the last few weeks our constant phone calls and text messages have become a staple I look forward to.
I never seem to express much emotion on the topic of my TTC lately,
I talk around it and through it, and all up an down it but I never really get to the meat of my emotions on the matter, I'm one of those...."I'm fine" people.
With her I really don't need to talk much because she understands without me having to express it.

Yesterday was a day of distractions and hoping and wishing and wanting and as hubby was consumed with work I turned to the person I knew would give me some strength.
The person that I know wouldn't just tell me what I wanted to hear, or console me, but would find a way to tell me the truth while still keeping it positive.
Yesterday was an awakening for me just how much her words give me strength and can comfort me.
I wanted to take the time to just make mention and thank her for being a pilar for me to lean on, a guide and a friend.
Thanks Tonya!
Here is hoping these words lets each of you know that no matter what you face in life, you are stronger than you think!

Day 18 of Inspiration

Hope you're all hanging in there its half way through the week.
Side note: for those wanting to follow our TTC journey you'll notice I've added a tab up top just for that.
I decided a while back that I won't be letting just one facet of my life take over my blog, I'm not negating that it is a journey and it isa part of my life but it's just that a part, a fraction, its not the whole of me or us.
I've also found that the less attention I give it, the less depressed I am, so this is also my way of controlling my own emotions.
That may not make sense but to me it does.

In the meantime, my blog will still conitnue in the same fashion, blabbing about everything under the sun, and as appointments come up and exciting things happen I will make a post on my main page, but for the nitty gritty, numbers or test results and dr. appointment dates, all that stuff will be on my TTC Timeline page.

Ok ladies, here is your daily dose of inspiration for today!
